CHA Earns 2024 ACEC Ohio Honor Award for Reconstructing Apron and Taxilanes at Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport

CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) has received a 2024 ACEC Ohio Honor Award in the Transportation category for the Reconstruction of Apron A and Hangar Taxilanes at the Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport (MFD) in Mansfield, Ohio. This award showcases CHA’s role in providing innovative engineering solutions to enhance airports.

MFD is vital for travel and commerce throughout North Central Ohio. The airport’s two asphalt runways effectively handle large commercial and military aircraft, including the USAF C-5 and the Antonov 124-100 and NASA craft such as the Super Guppy and Orion spacecraft. To continue supporting government and military operations and offering unique business opportunities, the City of Mansfield sought to reconstruct Apron A and Hanger Taxilanes G, H, H1, H2, J, L, M, and N, which service all the general aviation t-hangers and box hangers at the airport.

This project reconstructed the 10,400 square-yard Apron A and approximately 7,050 feet of taxilanes in the general aviation hangar area. In addition, this project included the installation of several new catch basins to collect stormwater runoff and alleviate poor drainage conditions. Two underground bio-retention cell areas were installed to treat additional runoff created due to the increase in impervious pavement. New LED edge lighting and lighted signage along Taxilanes G, H, and J were also installed.
