On July 24th, a group of CHA interns had the opportunity to step out of the office for a hands-on learning experience, thanks to the Northeast Chapter of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI Northeast). The Precast Intern Day offered a full-day tour of key facilities in the precast concrete industry, giving interns a deeper understanding of how precast elements are designed, manufactured, and installed.
The day began with a tour of the Fort Miller precast plant in Greenwich, New York, where interns observed the production process of precast components. The group then visited an active construction site in Albany, offering a real-time look at how precast components come together. The final stop was a tour of the Amrize cement plant in Ravena. Interns here learned about the raw materials and processes that support the precast industry.
Thank you to PCI Northeast for hosting this event! This informative experience has enriched CHA’s intern summer program with valuable insights into the collaborative nature of engineering and construction.
PCI Northeast is a not-for-profit trade association formed in 1978 and serves New England and New York. PCI Northeast is a chapter of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) and all PCI Northeast producer member plants are required to be PCI Members and PCI Certified. PCI Certification (plants, people, erection) is founded on PCI's body of knowledge and ensures that each plant has a developed and documented quality system established on time-tested national industry standards.
