Scott Stell Park Improvements received a Project of Excellence Award in the Parks & Recreation category as part of the 2025-2026 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Georgia Section Engineering Project Awards. The recognition adds to the project's growing list of honors, following its receipt of a Merit Award in the Special Projects at the 2026 ACEC Georgia Engineering Excellence Awards. The project was also featured in the Winter 2026 issue of Engineering Georgia magazine. This recognition underscores the project's outstanding engineering achievement and lasting impact on the Chatham County community.
When Chatham County set out to modernize L. Scott Stell Park, the goal extended beyond replacing aging recreational facilities. The vision was to create a destination where residents could gather, compete, and connect in a setting designed for comfort, accessibility, and long-term community use. As the lead design and engineering consultant, CHA helped translate that vision into a revitalized public space designed to serve the region’s evolving recreational needs.
The improvements have reshaped the park into a more comfortable and versatile destination. Modernized tennis and basketball courts, new pickleball courts, improved accessibility, and enhanced amenities have expanded opportunities for recreation and community gatherings. Signature open-air steel “airnasiums” over the courts provide shade and weather protection while preserving the outdoor playing experience. By blending thoughtful planning with user-focused design, the project has reinforced the park's role as a vibrant public asset that will support wellness and community connections for years to come.
The ASCE Georgia Section Annual Awards Committee noted the impressive field of nominated projects from across the state. L. Scott Stell Park was selected as a standout example of how innovative, community-centered design can enhance quality of life through public recreation infrastructure.
