CHA Consulting, Inc. (CHA) earned a Merit Award at the 2026 ACEC Georgia Engineering Excellence Awards for the L. Scott Stell Park Improvements, recognized in the Special Projects (Recreational Facilities) category. The honor celebrates the project team's creativity, technical excellence, and the lasting value the revitalized park brings to the Chatham County community.
Located in unincorporated Chatham County on the southern edge of Savannah, L. Scott Stell Park has long served as a hub for outdoor recreation. Over time, heavy use had taken its toll on the park’s tennis, basketball, and pickleball courts. Chatham County engaged CHA to lead a comprehensive upgrade to restore the park’s infrastructure, improve accessibility, and reimagine the experience for players and visitors alike.
The revitalized park now features new tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts, each covered by sleek open-air canopies that provide shade, reduce sun glare, and enhance comfort through the day. Complementary upgrades, including new parking, site lighting, landscaping, and a reconfigured court layout, improve site circulation and usability while creating a more welcoming, cohesive environment. This modern recreation destination is poised to support community events, youth leagues, and wellness programming, reaffirming the park’s role as a vibrant civic gathering space.
The project’s thoughtful planning, innovative design, and community-focused approach demonstrate how engineering strengthens neighborhood connections. Members of CHA’s project team accepted the award during the 2026 Georgia Engineering Awards, held by ACEC Georgia at the Gas South Convention Center on March 6, 2026.
