CHA is proud to announce that the SR 25/Okeechobee Road Reconstruction project has received a 2026 Best in Construction Award in the Bridge Category from the Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA). Presented in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the award recognizes outstanding transportation projects that strengthen Florida's infrastructure and communities.
Located in Miami-Dade County, the project transformed a critical segment of SR 25/U.S. 27/Okeechobee Road, from east of NW 107th Avenue to east of NW 116th Way. This is one of South Florida's busiest freight corridors. The Hialeah Garden’s intersection was named one of the 12 most dangerous intersections in the U.S. by Time Magazine, but now the interface between bridges 2 and 4 functions as a modified echelon intersection Designed to improve traffic operations, safety, and regional mobility, the improvements included a new grade-separated interchange, four new bridges, two bridge replacements, reconstructed frontage roads, upgraded drainage and utility infrastructure, bicycle accommodations, new lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
As the prime designer, CHA led project management and coordination efforts and provided roadway, bridge, drainage, lighting, ITS, utility coordination, and miscellaneous structures design services. The completed project enhances freight reliability, reduces congestion, and improves connectivity along a key corridor within FDOT's Strategic Intermodal System (SIS).
The project was delivered through the collaborative efforts of FDOT District Six, CHA, construction contractor partners, and construction engineering and inspection teams, including RK&K and H. Rodriguez Consulting Engineering, Inc.
The FTBA Best in Construction Awards recognize projects and professionals setting the standard for excellence in Florida's transportation construction industry. Selected in partnership with FDOT, the awards honor achievements that advance transportation, infrastructure, safety, and economic development throughout the state.
