Adams Point Housing

Adams Point Housing represents a significant investment in preserving and expanding affordable housing opportunities in Biddeford at a time when demand for housing continues to grow. Developed by the Biddeford Housing Authority, the project is the agency's first new affordable housing community in more than a generation, creating much-needed housing for families while reinforcing the character of an established residential neighborhood.

Located among a mix of single-family homes, duplexes, and a former school building that has been converted to housing, the new 43,000 SF development was carefully designed to fit within its surroundings while responding to the unique challenges of the site. Working closely with local officials, neighborhood stakeholders, and the Historic Preservation Commission, the project team refined the building's scale, materials, and layout to create a development that feels connected to the existing community.

A steep 25-foot change in elevation and extensive subsurface ledge required creative solutions throughout the design process. The building is organized around a gently curving access road that follows the natural terrain, while its orientation maximizes solar exposure and strengthens pedestrian connections to the surrounding neighborhood. Inside, the development provides 39 affordable family housing units ranging from one- to four-bedroom apartments, along with shared amenities including a community room, food preparation area, bicycle storage, laundry facilities, and resident support spaces.

Funded through Maine State Housing Authority programs, Adams Point Housing creates a welcoming new residential community while addressing a critical housing need and expanding access to quality, affordable homes for Biddeford families.
