Alexander Park Improvements

Improvements to Alexander Park have enhanced accessibility and expanded amenities across this 91-acre community destination in Gwinnett County. This project focused on providing inclusive recreation opportunities and improving circulation for vehicles and pedestrians while preserving the park’s natural beauty.

CHA served as the prime consultant, leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for the design of new park features, including a dog park, two event pavilions, a playground, a restroom building, and more than 2,000 feet of new multi-use trails and connecting sidewalks. The project also added over 300 parking spaces, new driveways, and a driveway connection to a State Route to improve access to and through the park.

Preserving specimen trees, maintaining pedestrian safety, and meeting a tight budget were key priorities. CHA conducted a comprehensive hydrology study to evaluate existing stormwater infrastructure and designed new bioretention stormwater management areas to meet water quality and quantity requirements for the expanded amenities. Working closely with Gwinnett County staff, CHA met all code and design standards while delivering a more welcoming park that serves the community’s diverse recreational needs.
