Chatham County, Memorial Stadium

Originally built in the 1950s, Memorial Stadium served for decades as the home of high school football games, youth sports programs, and community events. As the historic facility aged and deteriorated, Chatham County partnered with CHA to design its replacement. The new Memorial Stadium is a state-of-the-art, multi-use venue that accommodates high school football, recreation league play, semi-professional soccer, and collegiate soccer and lacrosse tournaments.

The stadium seats up to 5,000 spectators and features a synthetic turf field system with heat-reducing infill that lowers field temperatures by up to 25 degrees. A new 15,600 SF field house includes locker rooms and showers for home and visiting teams. The stadium also features concessions, public restrooms, county offices, and a 1,500 SF multipurpose event room with a balcony overlooking the field. Additional amenities include equipment storage beneath the grandstand, a dedicated officials’ locker room, a digital video scoreboard, and LED field lighting.

Continuing its long-term partnership with the county, CHA was re-engaged in 2025 to design the replacement of the stadium’s synthetic turf field. Improvements include a new synthetic turf system with temperature-reducing turf fibers and infill, tufted men’s and women’s lacrosse lines added to the field, and updated field branding featuring county and Parks & Recreation Department logos. The project also includes extending a domestic water line to serve a new hose bibb on the visitor’s side of the field.
