Indian Point Data Center Campus Redevelopment

Once home to the Indian Point nuclear power plant, the 240-acre site in Buchanan, New York, is now being reimagined as a next-generation data center campus. To support this evolution, CHA is delivering comprehensive engineering services to facilitate a seamless interconnection to the regional power grid. The effort is a collaborative endeavor involving Con Edison and the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), with CHA guiding the System Impact Assessment (SIA) process.

With an anticipated load of 200 MW, the project requires converting the site from a power producer to a high-demand customer, anchored by a dual-feed connection to a nearby Con Edison substation. The project requires a robust electrical design strategy: medium and high voltage system concepts, a main electrical single line diagram, and detailed protection and control schemes that define the operational heartbeat of the future campus.

The team is also conducting a thorough review of the existing substation infrastructure, aligning legacy capabilities with modern requirements. Operational narratives and interconnection documentation are being crafted to articulate the site’s new role in the energy ecosystem.
