Midcoast Athletic & Recreation Complex Master Plan Study

Located on former Navy property transferred to the town for recreational development, the Midcoast Athletic & Recreation Complex (MARC) is a planned 10-acre outdoor recreation complex in Brunswick, Maine. The Town of Brunswick engaged CHA to lead a comprehensive master planning study for the complex.

Through interviews with focus groups and stakeholders, public forums, and a statistically valid community survey, CHA helped define the facility’s vision and priorities. The team also created a market assessment, a programming and operations assessment, and a Pro Forma for operations and maintenance. Using this data, CHA provided a site analysis, conceptual site plan, economic analysis, operational Pro Forma, and a cost analysis, all of which were used to create a final site plan rendering and presentation to the town.

Construction of the MARC is progressing in phases. Completed phases include eight pickleball courts, a skate park, parking, a perimeter walking loop, storm drainage infrastructure, and a new playground designed for children up to age 5. Located adjacent to a daycare facility, the playground fulfills Maine Department of Health & Human Services Child Care Division requirements while providing a much-needed outdoor playground for local families.

CHA is currently providing construction administration services for Phase 1 Tier 1C, which includes a two-court basketball facility with perimeter fencing, connecting sidewalks to existing facilities, and sports lighting for both the new courts and existing facilities.

Upon full buildout, the MARC will also feature tennis courts, two lighted multi-purpose fields, a covered hockey rink, an aquatic facility, a central pavilion with restrooms, storage buildings, and additional parking, creating a premier recreation destination for Brunswick and the surrounding region.
