The New York State Office of General Services and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision are modernizing technological infrastructure across correctional facilities statewide. CHA is leading the design and implementation of advanced video and audio recording systems customized to each facility's unique needs.
These upgrades rely on a robust fiber optic backbone linking Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs) to centralized Main Distribution Frames (MDFs), where critical data processing and storage systems reside. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are integrated to bridge the gap between power loss and generator activation, ensuring continuous operation of servers and switches without manual resets. Cable management is thoughtfully planned to support long-term maintenance and system clarity.
Mechanical cooling systems are carefully sized and programmed to maintain optimal environmental conditions year-round. Many existing buildings and rooms are being reconditioned to meet the stringent requirements of data center environments, including secure access, environmental sealing, and structural reinforcement.
From the installation of CCTV and CPAS systems to the construction of secure, climate-controlled network rooms, each facility (Elmira, Downstate, Taconic, Eastern, Mid-State, and Groveland) benefits from this modernization.
Six projects have been completed to date under this initiative.
Critical efforts involve connecting IDFs from around campuses to a primary MDF.
Service interruptions are eliminated thanks to modern UPSs.
