Andersen Air Force Base’s Munitions Storage Area is a critical component of the installation’s mission readiness, supporting the secure handling and storage of operational assets. To expand storage capacity and meet stringent safety and performance requirements, the project called for the installation of new earth-covered munitions storage magazines within an active, highly controlled environment.
CHA served as Civil Designer of Record as part of a design-build team, providing comprehensive site design for the installation of 12 earth-covered munitions storage igloos along 6th Street within Munitions Storage Area-1. The new magazines deliver approximately 24,000 square feet of 7-bar rated storage, designed in accordance with Unified Facilities Criteria and NAVFAC standards. CHA’s scope included design management, site demolition, grading, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and access apron and pavement design, as well as civil structural elements supporting stormwater infrastructure.
Working within a secure, operational installation, CHA coordinated closely with base personnel, security teams, and regulatory stakeholders through phased design submittals and review milestones. Additional services included design quality control, permitting support, and construction administration. The result is a resilient, compliant storage solution that strengthens operational capability while supporting safe, efficient site performance.
