The JP-8 Fire Training Facility at Goodfellow Air Force Base provides a realistic, controlled environment for aircraft rescue and firefighting training. Designed to meet NFPA 1003 standards, the facility prepares Department of Defense personnel to safely respond to aviation-related fire emergencies.
CHA served as the lead design firm and Designer of Record (DOR) under contract to Kirila Fire Training Facilities, Inc. The facility features a JP-8 burn trainer that replicates real-world conditions through a simulated aircraft wing section, mounted engine, and pool fire burn pit, supporting hands-on training aligned with national standards.
Key systems include an aviation fuel storage and delivery network, automated ignition and control systems with a PLC touchscreen interface, a pneumatic control system, stormwater management infrastructure, and an oil-water separation system. The design also incorporates concrete aprons, power distribution, site lighting, and secure operational areas to support safe and efficient training.
The result is a highly technical, integrated facility that strengthens training effectiveness, enhances operational safety, and supports long-term performance.
