Denton Street Pool Improvements

The City of Rocky Mount partnered with CHA to evaluate and revitalize the community's beloved Denton Street outdoor municipal swimming pool facility. To support the facility's long-term viability, CHA completed a comprehensive condition assessment to identify all site deficiencies, prioritize improvements, and develop strategies to modernize the pool complex while extending its usable service life. The assessment included an evaluation of the following:

  • Swimming pool
  • Filtration and recirculation equipment
  • Concrete deck and drainage
  • Chlorination systems
  • Bathhouse structure
  • Locker rooms, showers, and restrooms
  • Outdoor shade structures
  • Site perimeter fencing
  • ADA access to the site and into the pools
  • Renovations to the existing parking lot

Completed in January 2021, CHA's full conditions assessment identified a range of recommended improvements and alternatives. CHA also provided detailed cost estimates to support a cost-benefit analysis, which could be performed to guide the city's investment decisions. Building on the assessment findings, CHA completed the full design, bidding, and Department of Health permitting documents for the scope of work. The team then assisted with bidding and performed construction administration services as the final step in the schedule.

The revitalized facility reopened in May 2023, providing Rocky Mount residents with a modernized, accessible, and upgraded aquatics destination.
