Pepco Electric Distribution Engineering

CHA has partnered with Pepco to enhance grid reliability over the past decade. This collaboration has led to remarkable results, propelling Pepco to the top customer-rated East Region Mid-size Utility. Our work with Pepco began with feeder hardening projects involving field data collection, standards review, and reliability-driven recommendations. Over time, our partnership expanded to encompass joint assessments, service work, as-built designs, underground conduit and cable replacement, reclosers, outage investigations, 69kV work, storm supports, distribution feeder extensions, and several pilot projects.

CHA's feeder hardening works consists of over 350 feeders, covering 4,000 overhead miles. Our work has involved installing and replacing overhead equipment, managing vegetation, relocating pole lines, and evaluating overloaded transformers. Additionally, we managed Pepco's three-year Area Plan initiative to address the worst-performing areas in their territory by extending new feeders, balancing loads, and reinforcing existing ones. Our proficiency in Pepco's GWD (GIS) and WMIS design programs and our familiarity with Asset Suite 8 and Visio streamline our operations. We've undergone comprehensive training with Pepco, maintaining close ties with their engineers and supervisors, optimizing our efficiency.
