When Maine's only accredited law school set out to establish a new home, the goal was about more than relocating classrooms. The vision was to create a place that would strengthen connections between students, faculty, the legal profession, and the broader Portland community. Situated in the heart of Portland's Old Port, the new home at 300 Fore Street places Maine Law at the center of the state's legal, business, and civic activity, giving students direct access to the community they will one day serve.

The project transformed a 63,841 SF office building into a modern academic environment designed around contemporary legal education. Flexible classrooms, a Moot Court courtroom, faculty and administrative offices, and technology-rich learning spaces support a hands-on curriculum that prepares students for practice while fostering collaboration and engagement. The design balances the tradition and stature of an established law school with an inviting atmosphere that welcomes students, faculty, alumni, and visitors alike.

Working within an existing downtown building presented unique challenges, including the careful coordination of building systems within limited floor-to-floor heights and an accelerated project schedule. The result is a vibrant new home for Maine Law that reflects the school's mission, enhances the student experience, and reinforces its role as an important institution within Maine's legal and civic landscape.
